NRA RANGE SAFETY OFFICER & CHIEF RSO COURSES

RANGE SAFETY OFFICER

NOTE TO CRSO CANDIDATES:  Certification as an RSO is a prerequisite to the CRSO course.  We run RSO the day before CRSO begins.  


The goal of the NRA's Range Safety Officer Course is to develop NRA Certified Range Safety Officers who possess the knowledge, skills & attitude essential to organizing, conducting & supervising safe shooting activities & range operations.
 

This non-shooting course is one full day.  


Prerequisite:  You must be at least 21 years old with a solid background in safety & shooting.

CHIEF RANGE SAFETY OFFICER

The goal of the NRA's Chief Range Safety Officer Course is to develop NRA Chief Range Safety Officers who possess the knowledge, skills & attitude necessary to conduct the NRA Range Safety Officer Course.

 

This non-shooting class consists of 3 parts over 2-3 days:


  • Range Safety Officer Training - If you are already an NRA RSO, please let us know.  This will shorten the class by a day & reduce your course fee.  We will need a copy of your RSO certificate.


  • Basic Instructor Training (BIT) (if necessary) -  If you have taken BIT within the last 2 years, please let us know.  This will reduce your class by one day.  If it has been longer than 2 years, you will need to take it again.


  • NRA Chief Range Safety Officer Training 


Prerequisite:  You must be an NRA Certified Range Safety Officer (RSO).  If you do not hold this certification, it is scheduled for the day before this class.

  • Introduction of NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Course Outline & Lesson Plans


  • The Role of the Chief Range Safety Officer & Range Standard Operating Procedures


  • Teaching NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Course Lesson I & II:  Introduction to the NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Course, The Role of the NRA Range Safety Officer & Range Standard Operating Procedures


  • Teaching NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Course Lesson III:  Range Inspections & Range Rules


  • Teaching NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Course Lesson IV:  Emergency Procedures


  • Teaching NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Course Lesson V: Range Safety Briefing


  • Teaching NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Course Lesson VI: Gun Stoppages & Malfunctions


You will need to provide: 

  • A copy of the PowerPoint/Lesson plans that will be emailed to you.  You can print or download to a tablet/laptop.  Power is available for electronics.
  • A pen & different colored highlighter than you used in RSO
  • A 1" 3-ring binder for the BIT Guide (If attending BIT)
  • The RSO Guide you received during your RSO class

    Students are not allowed to bring firearms to this class.


    Ladies:  If you are pregnant or nursing, we will require a written doctor's authorization allowing you to handle firearms. 


    Only "dummy" ammunition is allowed in the classroom.


    Class Materials & Lunch are included in the course fee.  


    NRA Processing/Certification Fees are not included.  You will pay this directly to the NRA after your class is completed.


    • Fees for your first NRA Instructor/RSO certification are $35 for NRA Members & $60 for Non-NRA Members.


    • Additional NRA Instructor certifications are $15 for NRA Members & $30 for Non-NRA Members.


    • Certifications are valid for 2 years.  All certifications will expire on the same date.  Re-certification fees are a flat $60.  (You do NOT have to take the class again.)  


    There is a (minimum) non-refundable $50.00 deposit required for registration.  If you are unable to attend the class after registering, this deposit will be applied to your next registration.


    While you will see classes set up in the calendar, our schedule is flexible.  Please contact us if you have a specific date in mind & a different class is listed.  We will try to work with your schedule.

    Package pricing includes the NRA Range Safety Officer Class, BIT (if necessary), the CRSO Course, Course Materials & Lunches.  


    For your convenience, the RSO class is offered the day before CRSO course. They are offered once per month.


    If you have already taken the RSO class, let us know.  This will reduce your course fee & save you a day.  


    If you have had BIT within the last 2 years, this will reduce your time by a day. (We don't charge for BIT, so, no, it won't save you any on the course fee.  Sorry...)

    The NRA requires that a minimum of 4 people must register in order for an Instructor course to hold.  Registration ends 72 hours before the RSO class begins.
